Richard Thorn Art: The Journey of a Renowned Artist and Jazz Guitarist
Early Passion for Art
Richard Thorn’s interest in art began at the tender age of five, when his love for drawing and sketching developed into a lasting passion. This early exploration became the “Prima Materia” for his later painting work. At school, teachers noted his drawing talent, which led him to enroll at Newton Abbot School of Art.
Transition to Music
After college, Richard pursued a career in music. Eventually, he became an accomplished Jazz Guitarist and currently leads a Latin/Jazz quartet, composing all their material. Music and art have intertwined throughout his career. Richard eventually realized that these two art forms spring from the same emotional source.
Career Milestones
The Torbay Art Society presented one of his paintings to Princess Michael of Kent at a Devon County Show. This recognition led to an exhibition at the Portuguese Embassy in London, where the Portuguese Ambassador purchased his painting. Since then, he has continued to exhibit in solo and group shows across the South of England and the Home Counties. His artwork and prints can now be seen and purchased at Haddon Galleries, Torquay, Devon.
Evolution of Artistic Techniques
Richard primarily works in watercolour. However, over the last five years, he diversified his mediums by incorporating acrylic, gouache, and pastel. Consequently, he expanded his art’s textural width and subject matter. This evolution has also broadened his appreciation of colour dynamics. Richard Thorn Art remains vibrant and captivating in its exploration.
