September Gold by John Skinner
Golden Hour Glow over the River Teign
“September Gold,” a limited-edition Giclée print by John Skinner, captures the serene beauty of a sunset over a tranquil waterway. Warm, golden light dominates the scene, creating a peaceful and inviting atmosphere. The overall mood is one of calm reflection.
Boats at Anchor
Several small boats gently bob on the water, their silhouettes highlighted against the glowing sky. One boat is adorned with colourful bunting, adding a touch of festivity to the scene. Moreover, the artist masterfully captures the still water reflecting the sunset’s colours.
Atmospheric Depth
The sky’s rich colours—deep blues and oranges—gradually blend into each other. Consequently, this creates a sense of depth and dimension. In addition, the distant shoreline adds a sense of scale and context to the piece.
John Skinner: A Journey Through Art
Early Life and Awakening Passion
Born in London in 1959, John Skinner discovered his passion for painting while living in Newcastle two decades later. Lacking formal training, he developed a distinct technique that defies convention, resulting in the uniquely jeweled quality evident in his watercolours.
Diverse Artistic Ventures
Throughout his career, John has worked as a children’s book illustrator and completed numerous corporate commissions. His impressive portfolio includes projects for notable names like Spitting Image and Walt Disney, showcasing his versatility across different media.
A New Home and Inspiration
Now residing in Teignmouth with his family, John finds inspiration in the natural beauty of his surroundings. He often wanders along the estuary, moorlands, and coastal paths, allowing the landscape to influence his work.
Creating for Connection
Today, John’s paintings embody his greatest joy: “painting for people.” He views art as a means of connection, stating, “After all, that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?” Through his vibrant works, he invites viewers to experience the world through his eyes.
