Sitting Amongst the Logs by Paul Haddon Photography
A Golden Gaze
This captivating photograph presents a young lioness, resting serenely amidst weathered wooden logs. Her gaze is directed thoughtfully to the side, creating a sense of calm contemplation. The soft, warm lighting enhances the tawny hues of her coat, beautifully contrasting with the rich browns of the wood.
Textures and Light
The image’s artistry lies in its exquisite detail. Notice the texture of the lioness’s fur, from the soft down to the individual hairs. Furthermore, the aged wood adds a fascinating layer of contrast and depth. The sunlight bathes the scene, illuminating every subtle contour.
A Serene Moment
The overall composition evokes a feeling of tranquility. The lioness appears comfortable and at ease. Consequently, the viewer is drawn into her world, sharing in her quiet majesty. The scene feels both wild and intimate, a perfect capture of a fleeting moment in nature.
Artistic Composition
Paul has skillfully used natural framing elements, specifically the logs, to draw the eye to the lioness. This results in a strong visual focus. Moreover, the use of light and shadow adds depth and dimension.
Paul Haddon Biography
Discovery of Photography
Paul Haddon discovered his passion for photography at age 14. He started taking pictures with his dad’s film camera, capturing moments with Rebel, his German Shepherd. Eager to understand photography’s technical side, Paul enrolled in a night school course. Within two years, he achieved both “O” and “A” level standards in photography.
Unique Exploration
Paul enjoyed photographing unusual subjects such as cemeteries in the magical, eerie light of late nights. These explorations often frightened him, yet fueled his creativity. Eventually, work and family commitments shifted his priorities, and photography took a back seat. However, nearly 20 years later, the advent of digital photography reignited his interest. Paul couldn’t resist; he purchased his first digital camera.
Commercial Success
Paul’s first commercial achievement came with a panoramic montage of the Back Beach in Teignmouth, sold in his restaurant. As demand for his framed photography grew, he ventured into the picture framing and Fine Art industries. This journey eventually led to the creation of Haddon Galleries in Torquay.
Ongoing Adventures
Now, Paul travels to exotic locations to photograph a variety of subjects, including wildlife, street life, landscapes, and seascapes. Nature and the world around him continue to inspire and amaze him.
