A Tender Moment Captured
Can I Have Some Paul Haddon’s “Can I Have Some” beautifully portrays a poignant interaction between two elephants. The artwork focuses on the gentle bond between a young elephant and a mature one, likely its mother. In this piece, Haddon captures a moment of tenderness and curiosity.
An Earthy Palette
The painting features a warm, earthy colour palette, dominated by shades of brown, beige, and subtle greens. These tones evoke a sense of the African savanna, the natural habitat of these majestic creatures. Haddon masterfully uses light and shadow to add depth and dimension to the elephants’ wrinkled skin. Consequently, this makes them appear incredibly lifelike.
Compositional Harmony
The composition centres around the two elephants, with the younger one playfully reaching towards its mother. Haddon frames them against a backdrop of verdant foliage, but it doesn’t detract from the central subject. Furthermore, the artist manages to create a balanced and visually appealing composition, highlighting the connection between the elephants.
Framing and Presentation
The framed piece enhances the artwork’s appeal, providing a sophisticated and polished look. The frame complements the earthy tones of the painting. Therefore, it ensures that the artwork is ready to hang and display in any setting.
Discovery of Photography
Paul Haddon discovered his passion for photography at age 14. He started taking pictures with his dad’s film camera, capturing moments with Rebel, his German Shepherd. Eager to understand photography’s technical side, Paul enrolled in a night school course. Within two years, he achieved both “O” and “A” level standards in photography.
Unique Exploration
Paul enjoyed photographing unusual subjects such as cemeteries in the magical, eerie light of late nights. These explorations often frightened him, yet fuelled his creativity. Eventually, work and family commitments shifted his priorities, and photography took a back seat. However, nearly 20 years later, the advent of digital photography reignited his interest. Paul couldn’t resist; he purchased his first digital camera.
Commercial Success
Paul’s first commercial achievement came with a panoramic montage of the Back Beach in Teignmouth, sold in his restaurant. As demand for his framed photography grew, he ventured into the picture framing and Fine Art industries. This journey eventually led to the creation of Haddon Galleries in Torquay.
Ongoing Adventures
Now, Paul travels to exotic locations to photograph a variety of subjects, including wildlife, street life, landscapes, and seascapes. Nature and the world around him continue to inspire and amaze him.
