About Ray Balkwill
Ray Balkwill SWAc is a renowned West Country artist celebrated for his watercolours, oils, and mixed media paintings. Born in Exeter in 1948, he graduated from Exeter College of Art and later built a career in advertising as an Art Director. In 1990, rising demand for his artwork prompted him to leave his advertising job and pursue painting full-time.
Artistic Career and Achievements
His paintings have been displayed in numerous solo exhibitions, showcasing his talent both locally and internationally. Ray conducts painting courses across Essex, Cornwall, and his studio in Devon, inspiring aspiring artists. Besides creating, he often contributes to ‘The Artist’ Magazine and has authored five books on art.
Media and Recognitions
In 2005, APV Films produced an instructional art film titled ‘Painting Estuary Moods,’ featuring him painting on the Exe estuary. His work resides in private collections throughout the UK and abroad. Recognition came in 2006 when the South West Academy elected him as an Academician. Additionally, he is a member of the St. Ives Society of Artists.
