Driving Licence Please Sir by Leigh Lambert
Nostalgia in Bronze
Leigh Lambert’s “Driving Licence Please Sir” is a captivating limited-edition sculpture that encapsulates a moment of playful nostalgia. The scene unfolds with a British policeman, meticulously rendered in detail, as he appears to engage a young boy in a classic pedal car. Moreover, the boy, dressed in a red jacket and cap, sits proudly in his black car, complete with bright flames. The composition is charming, evoking a sense of innocent mischief.
Capturing Childhood Moments
The artist’s skill is evident in the lifelike textures and expressions of the figures. The policeman, while stern, possesses a hint of amusement, perfectly juxtaposed with the boy’s earnest demeanor. The backdrop, featuring a cobblestone street and a small set of steps, adds to the overall charm of the piece. Further, a trash can stands near the officer, adding to the scene’s realism. You can’t help but smile looking at it.
Craftsmanship and Detail
The sculpture stands on a sleek black base. The bright colours of the car pop in contrast to the policeman’s navy uniform. This is really impressive work that looks very realistic! In short, “Driving Licence Please Sir” is a delightful piece of art that captures a fleeting moment of childhood adventure. The quality of its creation and the story it portrays make it a highly desirable item for collectors and art enthusiasts.

Early Life and Artistic Beginnings
Leigh Lambert, a Newcastle-Upon-Tyne native, spent his first twenty years there. He began drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil. His family quickly recognized his artistic talent. His schoolteachers also admired his skill in capturing scenes.
Developing His Style
In 1996, his family moved to Warwickshire. There, he focused on refining his artistic technique. Leaving Newcastle gave him a new perspective. He now saw the city’s beauty, contrasting with his earlier view. His art draws inspiration from his and his father’s childhoods. This creates a nostalgic feel, resonating with many viewers.
Artistic Medium and Approach
Lambert primarily works in pencil, watercolour, and oil on board, creating art from his garden studio. His colour palette is minimal. He uses vibrant splashes only on figures within mostly monochromatic landscapes. This highlights the joy of youth.
Success and Future
Lambert has achieved significant success. His limited-edition prints and original art sell out rapidly. He even has a waiting list for commissions. Consequently, he’s thrilled to join Andrew and Kathryn. This new gallery space marks a significant career milestone. Moreover, it showcases the largest collection of his work. He eagerly anticipates meeting visitors at upcoming events.
