A Family Affair in the African Sun
This stunning photograph captures a heart-warming moment in the African savanna. A matriarch elephant stands proudly, her large ears fanned out. Beside her, a younger female elephant provides a gentle presence. Moreover, a tiny calf stands between them, its small size contrasting sharply with the majestic adults.
Muddy Memories
The elephants on the bank of the Luangwa River. Consequently, mud clings to their legs and bodies. A broken branch lies near the family, suggesting recent activity. The background features lush greenery and a tranquil body of water. This adds depth and context to the scene.
Tranquil Strength
The overall mood is one of peaceful strength. The elephants’ powerful presence commands attention, yet their interaction exudes familial warmth. Their wrinkled skin and wise eyes tell stories of many years spent traversing the African landscape. Furthermore, the soft light casts long shadows, enhancing the dramatic composition.
More Than Just a Picture
This isn’t merely a photograph; it’s a window into the wild beauty of Africa. The composition expertly captures a tender moment in the lives of these magnificent creatures. Ultimately, it evokes feelings of awe and respect for the natural world.
Paul Haddon Biography
Discovery of Photography
Paul Haddon discovered his passion for photography at age 14. He started taking pictures with his dad’s film camera, capturing moments with Rebel, his German Shepherd. Eager to understand photography’s technical side, Paul enrolled in a night school course. Within two years, he achieved both “O” and “A” level standards in photography.
Unique Exploration
Paul enjoyed photographing unusual subjects such as cemeteries in the magical, eerie light of late nights. These explorations often frightened him, yet fuelled his creativity. Eventually, work and family commitments shifted his priorities, and photography took a back seat. However, nearly 20 years later, the advent of digital photography reignited his interest. Paul couldn’t resist; he purchased his first digital camera.
Commercial Success
Paul’s first commercial achievement came with a panoramic montage of the Back Beach in Teignmouth, sold in his restaurant. As demand for his framed photography grew, he ventured into the picture framing and Fine Art industries. This journey eventually led to the creation of Haddon Galleries in Torquay.
Ongoing Adventures
Now, Paul travels to exotic locations to photograph a variety of subjects, including wildlife, street life, landscapes, and seascapes. Nature and the world around him continue to inspire and amaze him.
