The Ness Shaldon By John Skinner

Capturing the Majesty of The Ness

John Skinner’s “The Ness, Teignmouth,” a limited edition Giclée print, eloquently presents the imposing beauty of this Devon landmark. This print invites viewers to admire the rugged coastline and the serene expanse of the sea, thus capturing the essence of Teignmouth’s natural splendour. In this work, Skinner perfectly conveys the atmosphere of the location.

The Ness in Silhouette

The painting centres around The Ness, depicted as a dark, looming form against the lighter sky. Above it, moody clouds gather, which add drama to the scene. In contrast, the light catches the surface of the water, creating a shimmering path of silver towards the viewer.

A Study in Light and Shadow

Skinner masterfully employs light and shadow to evoke a sense of depth and atmosphere. The darker tones of the cliff face contrast with the luminous highlights on the water. Because of this, they create a visually captivating image. Furthermore, the muted colour palette enhances the feeling of tranquility, allowing the viewer to become immersed in the scene.

A Timeless Coastal Masterpiece

“The Ness, Teignmouth” encapsulates the raw beauty of the British coastline and brings a touch of coastal serenity to any space. Indeed, it makes a fine addition to any collection.

John Skinner Art:

Born in London in 1959, it wasn’t until twenty years later whilst living in Newcastle, that John Skinner began painting in earnest. With no formal training, John perfected a distinct technique and an unorthodox, against the rules approach to watercolours, manifesting itself in the uniquely jewelled quality that we see in his work.

John has been a children’s book illustrator and worked on corporate commissions as well as working extensively in film and television. Spitting Image and Walt Disney were among his impressive list of credits.

John has now settled in Teignmouth with his family and can often be seen roaming the estuary, moor land and coastal paths of the area.

His paintings are now a result of what John loves doing the most ‘painting for people’ he calls it ‘and after all that’s what it’s all about isn’t it.’
